Library Lines

It’s official -  Summer is here!

I know summers fly by, but you would be surprised how much ground a child can lose in three months when it comes to reading skills.
You can help your children or grandchildren keep those skills sharp by signing them up for the Summer Reading Program at your nearst library branch.
Our theme this summer is “Dig Into Reading!”
Children who sign up get a Bingo game reading log.  They can read for 20 minutes in a location of their choice - on the back porch, in the library, etc.  Once they get a “Bingo” on their card, they can come back to the library for a prize.  Children who cannot read yet, but who listen to books, get a log that allows them to color in a shape for every book they listen to.  We’ll have a grand prize for the outstanding reader.
We also have a program scheduled every week to make your trips to the library even more fun.  Jessica VanReenan Martin is presenting weekly, hour-long programs that revolve around our theme. There will be stories and crafts and lots of fun.
These programs are on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at the Green Bank Library and at 1 p.m. at the Linwood Library. Programs are scheduled for Thursdays at 11 a.m. at McClintic Library and 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro Library.
We are aiming for elementary aged children, but younger children are welcome to attend as long as Mom or Dad can stay and help them with the craft.   Transportation will be provided for  children from the Durbin area to attend the Green Bank programs.
The Summer Reading fun runs through August 8.
Please call the library for more information: McClintic, 304-799-6000; Hillsboro, 304-653-4936; Green Bank, 304-456-4507; Durbin, 304-456-3142; Linwood, 304-572-BOOK (572-2665).  Come, “Dig into Reading” with us this summer!
